The leaves of the henna plant are dried and ground into powder, then mixed into a paste with essential oils, tea, and lemon, then applied to the skin. The henna paste dries on the skin, and is left on for at least an hour (the longer the better it will stain). When the henna crumbles off, there is a light color on the skin. The design will darken over the next few days and will last 1-3 weeks. Because it is all natural, it stains the skin one color, reddish-brown and varies with the skin tone.
